By following these easy instructions, you will be able to create a dial-up connection with Windows 2000 operating system. This is the first step towards surfing the net and using the most efficient method of written communication: e-mail. From the staff of Rockenstein-AG, we wish you unprecedented satisfaction with our service in the time to come.
First you have to install the modem-adapter. Once it works properly you can continue with the installation of the “Dial-Up-Networking”. For further assistance please see your Modem-Handbook. Due to the huge variety of hardware, we are not able to give a general instruction for this topic.
The first step is opening the folder “Network and Dial-up Connections”.
Click “Start - Settings - Network and Dial-up Connections”.

The Folder “Network and Dial-up Connections” opens.
Please left-double-click “Make New Connection” as you want to create a new connection to Rockenstein.

The “Network Connection Wizard” will be started.
Please click “Next” to continue.

As “Network Connection Type” please select: “Dial-up to private network”.
Click “Next” to continue.

In this window enter the dial-up number.
The field: “Area code” is to be left blank.
In the field: “Phone number” enter 01925890.
For “Country/region code” select Germany (49).
Please check the box “Use dialing rules”.
Please click “Next” to continue.

On this screen you may select whether the momentarily logged-in user has exclusive right to use the new connection or all users on this computer may use it.
Please click “Next” to continue.

This is the last step with Connection Wizard.
Please type in a name for the new created connection, you may choose any name you think to be suitable.
We suggest to name the connection “Rockenstein”.
Please click “Finish” to save the new connection.

You now have given the primary settings for the dial-up connection to your computer. But there is still some work left to be done. The properties of the new connections are to be checked. There are two ways to access the properties-window for the connection.
As soon as the new connection is created Windows 2000 offers you the “Connect to”-window which you later may use to start the connection.

For now please either click on “Properties” to open the properties-window or click on “Cancel” to close this window.
The other way to access the connection's properties is by clicking “Start - Settings” then double-click “Dial-Up-Networking”.
Select the “Rockenstein-connection”, right-click on it and select “Properties”.

The “General”-tab on the properties-window displays some of the information gathered by the Connection Wizard.
Please check whether the displayed modem is the proper one.
Now, click on the tab “Networking”.

Please check for the entries shown on your screen to be the same as on the image to the right.
Below “Type of dial-up server I am calling” select:
“PPP: Windows 95/98/NT 4/2000, Internet”.
The only allowed protocol is “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)”, don't forget to mark the checkboxes in front of “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and “Client for Microsoft Networks”

If the TCP/IP-Protocol is not yet installed, perform the following actions:
click “Install”, select “Protocol”, click “Add” select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)”, finally click “OK”. Windows 2000 will then install the protocol.
In order to enable “Channel-Bundling”, click “Settings” on the “Networking”-tab.
A small window as to the left will appear.
You only have to mark the checkbox in front of “Negotiate multi-link for single link connections”.
Click “OK” to close the window again.

Back on the “Networking”-tab select the “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” by a single left-click on the entry in the “Components” section, then click on “Properties”.
The General-window for the TCP/IP-Settings will open.
Please copy the settings as given in the image to the right.

This is the “Advanced TCP/IP Settings”-window.
The only settings to be checked are on the “General”-tab of this window.
Please make sure that the checkboxes in front of “Use default gateway on remote network” and “Use IP header compression” are marked.

Please select the “Security”-tab.
In the field “Security options” please select “Typical (recommended settings)”.
Below “Validate my identity as follows:”, choose:
“Allow unsecured password”.

Click on “OK” to confirm all changes.
The setting up of the new dial-up connection is now finished.
