By following these simple instructions, you will be able to create a dial-up connection under the Windows98 platform. This is the first step towards surfing the net and using the most efficient method of written communication…Email. First you have to install the modem-adapter. If it works properly you can continue with the installation of the "Dial-Up-Network". For further assistance please see your Modem-Handbook Due to the huge variety, we are not able to give a general instruction for this topic.
Dial-Up-Network
The first step is to start with the main screen of your computer right after boot-up and log-in. On the so-called Desktop, double-click the icon named "My Computer“.
Double-click the icon called “Dial-Up-Networking”

On the next screen you have to choose "Make New Connection“ as you want to establish a connection to Rockenstein.
Click NEXT to begin.

In the first field you can enter a name for the connection you are about to create.
For example: Rockenstein-nline.
In the second field you have to select your modem.
If it does not appear you will have to install it. Please refer to the modem manual.
Then click NEXT to continue.

Enter the telephone numbers as provided.
Area code: leave this field blank
Telephone number: 01925890
Country code: Germany(49)
Click Next to continue.

You reached the final confirmation screen !
The wizard ends and you have to continue manually.

Go back to the desktop and double-click the icon “My Computer”. Open the folder “Dial-Up-Networking”. There you should find a new connection labeled “Rockenstein”. Just click once on this connection and press the right-mouse-button.
A context-menu will appear.
Select the entry "Properties".
Your screen should look similar.
Important: The check-box “Use area code and Dialing Properties” has to be unchecked !
Open the Register “Server Types”.
The following screenshot appears.

The "Type of Dial-Up-Server" is:
PPP:Internet, Windows NT Server, Windows98
Everything else is unmarked, except the “TCP/IP Radio-Button”
Then click on “TCP/IP Settings”
The following screen appears.

Copy the screen on the right.
Checked: “Server assigned IP address”
Checked: “Server assigned name server addresses”
Checked: Use IP header compression
Checked: Use default gateway on remote Network
Then click OK to confirm.
Configuration of your Dial-Up-Network is complete.
Click OK to continue.

If you do click on your Dial-Up-Connection “Rockenstein-Online”, the next screen will appear.
Your username is the suffix of your email-address:
In this case, the mail-address is:
Alex0815@hrb.de and so the username is alex0815.
Enter the password as provided with your application-form.
